Ibrahim Ibrahimi hails from a musical family, being son of Ustad Abdul Qayoum and grandson of Dada Abdul Karim, both accomplished rubab players. He was prepared to follow in his father's footsteps from secondary school onwards and was taught the tabla by Ustad Sabz Ali Khan. He subsequently graduated from the Mia Sahib Qader Bakhsh College of Music.
As a highly skilled tabla player, Ustad Ibrahimi demonstrates versatility in both classical and popular styles. He is one of the few Afghan musicians to transcend the boundaries of traditional ethnic music.Â
His reputation has also afforded him employment at Radio Television Afghanistan (RTA), where he has performed on numerous occasions, accompanying some of the most esteemed musicians. At the same time, he was hired as an arranger and performer on Shamshad TV Ghazal Shpa, as well as on other channels (Tolo TV, Lemar TV, Ariana TV...).
He has a wealth of musical experience and regularly participates in collaborative projects, which allow him to work with Western styles such as classical, pop, jazz, and rock.
In 2021, the Taliban seizure of power forced Ustad Ibrahimi to leave Afghanistan with haste and seek asylum in France, where he currently resides. Accompanied by his family, he reunited with his two eldest sons, Humayoun and Haroon, who had left five years earlier, and founded the Ibrahimi Ensemble.
